Rensselaerville Hamlet

Our campus is located on the edge of the Rensselaerville hamlet, which was settled in 1787 and is home to several historic residences, 19th-century churches, a grist mill, and one of Albany County’s first public libraries. The entire hamlet is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.

  • HUYCK PRESERVE

The Huyck Preserve and Biological Research Station was founded in 1931 with a mission to preserve the natural beauty of Rensselaerville Falls, Lake Myosotis, and the surrounding lands. The Preserve conducts long-term research on biodiversity and offers a series of innovative, field-based educational programs that create opportunities for people to connect to nature.

The Preserve maintains 12 miles of hiking trails that are open year round for public use. The most popular trail features the Rensselaerville Falls, which cascade over 120 feet and is directly behind the Visitors’ Center. Over 2,000 acres of forest, field, and wetlands fall under their stewardship including Lincoln Pond and Hennicke Marsh.

  • RENSSELAERVILLE LIBRARY

Rensselaerville Library was first organized in 1798 as “The Federal Library” and was one of the first libraries in Albany County. Initially the library’s 200 books were kept in different parts of town, wherever space could be found. The present library was established in 1896 as the Rensselaerville Reading Room and Library Association in a former boot shop.

In 1996, the Library acquired the adjacent property from the estate of Vivian Anderson Borthwick, who, at 15, was the youngest public librarian in New York State history. Her salary in 1929 was $10 a month.

The Library offers programs throughout the year and hosts regular events for the community, including game nights and guest lectures.

  • KUHAR FAMILY FARM MARKET & CAFE

A farm-to-table establishment, owners Micah and Rochelle serve fresh, casual fare grown on their Rensselaerville farm alongside locally sourced ingredients.

Accordingly, the menu changes every day with a handful of menu items always available, notably the famous “Micah Burger” made with their own grass-fed beef.

In the market, products produced by local artisans - things like jewelry, soap, greeting cards, honey, and bread - are available for purchase. They often host special events, both public and private, featuring local bands and artists.

  • RENSSELAERVILLE HISTORICAL SOCIETY

The Rensselaerville Historical Society (RHS) is a nonprofit organization whose mission is to collect, preserve, and interpret the history and culture of Rensselaerville and its surrounding areas.

RHS offers a range of programs for patrons of all ages, including lectures and special events such as the annual Rensselaerville Art Show. Headquartered in a grist mill built in 1880, volunteers offer free tours of the building during the summer.

Their onsite museum has an extensive collection of artifacts, photographs, and documents that chronicle the history and culture of the area.
